Allie's Ready to Roam - Allergy Travel Updates

Welcome to the first installment of my new newsletter - Ready to Roam with Allie Bahn.

This is where I will be sharing my latest travel updates, tips and announcements. The newsletter will also highlight anything timely for the season.

Although I will typically be focused on travel here, I will also update on other helpful allergy and travel related news.

As I write this, I am in Italy exploring the coast in the region of Liguria. It is best known for its fishing villages, colorful seaside buildings, and unfortunately for me, a lot of fish! However, this hasn't prevented me from dining out and enjoying the experience. If you are planning to visit this region though, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

  • If you are allergic to fish and tree nuts, it will be challenging to find restaurants that don't serve any of these allergens.
  • Restaurant menus in this area generally do not have visible allergen keys.
  • The allergy awareness is not as high as in main cities that are used to American tourist (i.e. Rome and Florence).
  • It may be easiest to stay in an apartment with a kitchen if the tips above are out of your comfort zone.

Each region in Italy is known for their regional specialties. With Liguria located in northwest Italy on what's considered the Italian Riviera, it makes sense that fish are a significant part of the cuisine (both fin and shellfish). Pesto is also a regional specialty, along with some other pasta sauces containing nuts. For these reasons, it is important to consider this when planning your trip. If fish, shellfish and tree nuts are not allergens you need to avoid, this could actually be a great region for you to visit and dine out in!

JUST FOR YOU:

The start of the school year can bring many challenges, including dining out...

Socially it can be an exciting time to connect with old friends and make new ones. But, that also means that food is often involved in plans.

If that is something you are struggling with - I've got you! After living with severe food allergies my entire life, dining out all over the world and learning the best, safest ways to do it, I know what will help be a game-changer.

I’ve bundled two of my most helpful resources to make it easier to eat safely and confidently: the Mini Chef Card Course, which helps you create a clear, professional card to communicate your food allergies directly to the kitchen, and my Digital Resource for Calling Restaurants Ahead, a step-by-step guide to make sure your allergies are understood before you arrive and once you are there. Together, these tools give you confidence, reduce stress, and make dining out safer and simpler. Grab the bundle today and let me know how dining out changes for you!

Fall in New England with Food Allergies

Fall is the perfect time for a New England road trip in the U.S. With food allergies taken into consideration, there are still countless places to visit and explore.

As a New England native who loves fall, I wanted to share my favorite time of year in the Northeast with my Swiss husband. On one trip, we squeezed in over 1,000 miles of driving from Philadelphia where we live, north through upstate New York, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, and finally my home state of Massachusetts.

Welcome back to my newsletter this month! Growing up in Massachusetts, I was spoiled with the leaves changing into the most magnificent hues during October. It isn't quite the same in Pennsylvania, but I do appreciate all of the festive fall and pumpkin themed decorations in my neighborhood and around the city. In past years, I'm usually traveling abroad and miss the majority of the fall festivities and foliage. I am thrilled to have an east coast fall this year to appreciate and enjoy my...
